After a brief break from the rain on Friday, another unsettled weekend is in store for the Jersey Shore, with periods of rain, heavy cloud cover and isolated thunderstorms expected across the area.
Saturday is expected to be a mainly wet day, with on-and-off showers throughout the day. Isolated thunderstorms could develop late Saturday and continue into early Sunday according to the
National Weather Service.
While the threat of widespread flash flooding has eased compared with earlier forecasts, forecasters say localized flooding remains possible, especially in areas that receive heavier downpours.
The concern comes as the ground remains saturated following Thursday’s intense rain and thunderstorms, which caused flooding on roadways across New Jersey and prompted numerous water rescues.
Heavier rainfall is expected to focus on southern coastal New Jersey and the Delmarva Peninsula, meaning parts of the Jersey Shore could see periods of particularly wet weather.
Residents and visitors heading to the Shore this weekend should be prepared for changing conditions, especially if spending time outdoors or traveling on Saturday. Motorists should use caution on water-covered roads and never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
Despite the unsettled weather, the weekend will not necessarily be a complete washout, as breaks in the rain are possible between showers and storms.
