10 Year-Old Girl Falls into Fire Pit at Family Event in South Jersey.
According to police, a fire pit accident at a family get-together in Cherry Hill on Sunday left a woman and a child with potentially fatal burns and numerous others were hospitalized.
According to
Cherry Hill Fire Chief Wade Houlihan, the incident occurred when a girl fell into a mounted fire pit on the backyard deck of a house on the
1200 block of Chapel Avenue West in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Authorities are currently looking into what happened. However, six individuals were burned overall, including three hospitalized women and two children.
Critical injuries were sustained by a 39-year-old woman and a 10-year-old child. The child was transported to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and the woman to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Although their burns weren't thought to be as bad, two women and an 11-year-old kid were sent to nearby hospitals. At the scene, a man with minor injuries received medical attention.
Around 7:40 p.m. on Sunday, firefighters were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of a girl falling into a fire pit. Shortly later, a deck fire in the backyard was reported, but it wasn't burning when first responders got there.
In roughly three minutes, crews arrived.
The event is being investigate by
Cherry Hill's Police Departmentt and fire marshal office.
