14-year-old Teen Cyclist Struck by SUV in Ocean County
According to Manchester Police, officials report that an SUV struck a 14-year-old boy who was riding a bicycle Friday night, causing significant injuries.
At approximately 11:20 p.m. on July 11, according to the police, a Dodge Grand Caravan was traveling east on Route 37. It ran into a bicycle as it was crossing Commonwealth Boulevard, splitting the bike in half.
The 14-year-old township resident who was riding the bike was sent to
Jersey Shore University Medical Center due to severe but non-life-threatening wounds. Frederick Grimm, 55, of Manahawkin, was the driver of the Dodge, and he was unharmed. The SUV's front end was severely damaged.
According to the authorities, the bicycle was not equipped with the electric lights that are legally necessary when riding at night. Patrolman Keith Douglas of the department's Traffic Safety Unit is continuing conducting the investigation. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital paramedics and EMTs from the Township also responded to the crash.
