15-month-old Toddler Runs into Street Hit By SUV

Around 1:25 p.m., according to Toms River Police Lieutenant Gene Bachonski, a woman was playing with her 15-month-old daughter in the front yard of a resident on Clayton Avenue in Toms River.

The girl fled into the street and was struck by a Chevrolet Equinox that continued driving while she was leaving the child in the care of other family members.

According to Bachonski, the motorist, Louis Turi, 86, of Toms River, did not stop.

Turi's license plate was provided to the police by a witness, who also claimed that Turi did not notice the girl and was unaware that he had struck her. Police deemed him not to be at fault.
