16-Year-Old Teenager Suffered Serious Injuries After Falling Off a Rope Swing in Ocean County
According to Manchester Police, a 16-year-old teenager suffered serious injuries after falling off a rope swing at a lake in Whiting. He was taken to the hospital by his friends and emergency personnel.
According to Capt. Albert Vega, the youngster, who remained anonymous, fell on his head. He was transported by air to
Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune following the July 30 incident. There was no immediate update on the teen's condition on Monday.
On July 30, at approximately 4:15 p.m., police were summoned to Hidden Lake after receiving a report of an unconscious teen in the water, with it unknown if he was breathing, according to Vega.
According to Vega, the lake is located in a remote and difficult-to-reach section of Whiting. Responders got out and began racing to the lake to try to save the teen's life after two police cars that were attempting to arrive at the incident via a dirt trail became disabled, he said.
According to Vega, bystanders at the lake assisted in locating the emergency personnel and provided transportation to the area. The youngster claimed that two of his friends were in the water at the lake, keeping him above the surface.
The teenager was swiftly put on a backboard by first responders, who used ropes to haul him up a 30-foot embankment. He was then transported by UTV approximately three miles to the main road. A Manchester EMS ambulance then transported the teenager to Bowker Field, where they were flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, according to Vega. According to him, the kid received additional medical evaluation and was intubated at the hospital.
Sgt. Michael Guarino and Patrol Officers Sage Sysol, Taylor Schandall, Liam Christensen, and Sean Rembach were the responding police officers, according to Vega. Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson EMS, Whiting Volunteer Fire Company, and Manchester EMS also responded.
The bystanders' reaction at the lake was "crucial" in getting the teenager to the hospital for treatment, according to Vega.
Patrol Officer Sean Rembach is still investigating the incident.
