19-Year-Old Driver Arrested for DUI After Ocean County Crash

According to Point Pleasant Police Department, after striking a utility pole on Bridge Avenue early on Monday, a Middletown man has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

According to Capt. Christopher Leonhardt, Scott Gilbert, 19, was charged after the crash that occurred at one in the morning on Monday, June 17, 2024.

Gilbert said that he was driving alone when he struck a utility pole in front of Stop and Shop, breaking it and knocking off the power in the neighborhood.

All but one or two businesses had their power restored as of approximately 11 a.m., according to Leonhardt, and Jersey Central Power & Light personnel were in the process of rebuilding the damaged pole.

In addition to being accused of driving while intoxicated, Gilbert "was relatively uninjured," according to Leonhardt.
