and Pet Costume Parade
The 2024 Fall Furfest & Halloween Pet Costume Parade is October 26, 2024, at Manahawkin Animal Facility.
Get ready for a paw-some time at the 16th Annual Furfest and Pet Parade at the Southern Ocean County Animal Facility (SOCAF) on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
The big bash will begin at 1 P.M. sharp to register your pet followed by the parade and the judging of the costumes getting underway at 1:30p.m.
Gary Quinn, Ocean County Commissioner Deputy Director, and liaison to the Ocean County Board of Health, invites everyone to join the Halloween festivities, saying, “If you’re looking for a fun way to get into the Halloween spirit with the entire family then there is no better event than the annual furfest and pet parade at the Manahawkin shelter.
It’s always an afternoon complete with dozens of participants who spend a lot of time and effort finding a unique costume or creating homemade designs and parade floats for their four-legged family members.”
Pets can strut their stuff by competing for great prizes and ribbons in the following categories:
• Scariest
• Best Group
• Funniest
• Most Original
• Best in Show
And since it’s a Halloween celebration, every pet parade participant will receive a goodie bag stuffed with treats – and no tricks necessary!!
"This parade just gets bigger and better year after year,” explained Daniel Regenye, Ocean County Health Department (OCHD) Public Health Coordinator. “The pets showing off their costumes never fail to put big smiles on the faces of all the participants and visitors. The shelter staff and our volunteers work so hard to ensure everyone goes home with so many great memories with their pets.”
The event is more than just about the pets in costume. The Annual Fall Furfest is also an excellent opportunity to showcase our shelter cats, kittens and dogs that are currently available for adoption and in need of permanent loving homes.
Every dog and cat adopted from the Ocean County Animal Facilities receives a veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, is spayed/neutered, and microchipped.
