According to Seaside Heights Police Department, 90 arrests and a curfew for children under the age of 18, as a result of students celebrating proms occurred over Memorial Day weekend.
Detective Steve Korman of Seaside Heights reported on Tuesday that 72 adults and 18 minors had been taken into custody.
The worst problems arose on Saturday night when there were reports of gunfire and children fleeing the boardwalk, prompting law officers to rush to the scene.
Police were shown on at least
one video clearly brandishing a semiautomatic rifle.
Detective Steve Korman of Seaside Heights stated, "We responded to reports in several locations, but they were unfounded." The Ocean County Sheriff's Office confirmed, "No shots were fired."
Authorities quickly declared a youth curfew of 10 p.m. on Saturday night after concluding there had not been any gunfire.
Christopher Vaz, the borough administrator, stated that the curfew is "a tool always in our toolbox." "As is a full boardwalk closure."
The Ocean County Sheriff's Office brought attention to the social media difficulties, which have made pop-up parties and unplanned gatherings more problematic in recent years.
"Last night, as many of you are aware, there were reports of gunfire on the Seaside Heights boardwalk," the sheriff's office posted on Facebook on Sunday. "This report was untrue and did not occur. We appreciate our partners' help in making sure everyone was safe throughout a hectic evening.
"Social media at times can spread information which is not true," the Sheriff's Office stated. "However we have a responsibility to make sure the public is safe!"
