Dangerously High Temperatures are Expected to Slam the State

This week, a heat advisory is in effect for most of NJ

This week, forecasters expect dangerously high temperatures to rumble through the state, placing the majority of New Jersey under a heat advisory.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for all New Jersey counties, with the exception of Sussex and Warren. Through Thursday evening, the heat index is predicted to reach 107.

With daily highs in the majority of the region well into the 90s, the heat wave is predicted to last at least through Sunday. The most oppressive days are predicted to be Thursday and Sunday.

Although the state's normal high temperature for Thursday is 95 degrees, the humidity and muggy weather may make it feel considerably warmer. The coast could experience highs of 100 degrees in Atlantic City, 102 degrees in Cape May, 105 degrees in Toms River, 106 degrees in Trenton, and 103 degrees in Morristown.

Forecasters indicated that because temperatures are expected to stay in the upper 70s throughout the night, there won't be much relief.

The National Weather Service warned in the statement that heat illnesses could emerge due to excessive humidity and hot temperatures. "Check on family and neighbors, stay in an air-conditioned room, avoid the sun, and drink lots of water. Under no circumstances should young children or pets be left alone in automobiles."
