An unidentified man was pulled from the water by Sandy Hook visitors and later died, according to a spokeswoman for the National Park Service.
According to spokesperson Daphne Yun, the man was rescued from the sea unconscious at midday at an unsupervised area of Gunnison Beach in the Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook.
CPR was performed on the man, whose identity has not been released, Yun said.
First responders took him to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, where he was pronounced dead, she said.
