Men Were Airlifted to Area Hospitals
According to New Jersey State Police, two men suffered significant injuries from boat propellers during the well-known Floats and Boats festival on Barnegat Bay on Saturday.
According to Sgt. First Class Philip Curry of the New Jersey State Police, a third guy was charged with boating while intoxicated in relation to one of the wounds.
Curry claimed that the two situations in which the men were hurt were separate. On Saturday about 1:40 p.m., a guy was struck on the leg by a propeller, according to Curry. He claimed that the individual had been flown to the Atlantic City Medical Center for treatment.
In the second incident, a propeller struck a 34-year-old guy in the belly, and he was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, according to Curry.
Sol Salazar, 38, of Newark, the captain of the boat that was involved in that incident, was charged with boating while intoxicated, he said.
Curry did not reveal either of the injured men's names.
Every summer, a large crowd gathers for two days during the Floats and Boats festival, when people congregate near
Tices Shoal. People will bring enormous floats of various kinds, including giant swans, unicorns, watermelon slices, and and much more. Boats tie up to one another and people just have fun in the water.
Floats & Boats is simple, bring your REALLY COOL floats to
Tices Shoal and hang for the weekend according to their
website! They gather every year in the the bay (usually just south of the stairs) at Tices to bring together the coolest float party Tices has ever seen.
According to News12, the festival at Tices Shoal, a location in the Barnegat Bay several miles south of the entrance to Island Beach State Park, was jam-packed this year with at least 2,000 boats and inventive inflatables.
