The Coast Guard Rescues Kite Surfer
On Thursday, the Coast Guard rescued a kite surfer from a sandbar approximately a mile off the coast of Barnegat Light, New Jersey.
On Thursday morning, a concerned citizen alerted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay to a report of a person gesturing for help on a sandbar.
The person in distress was reported to be directly across from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light near Sledge Island.
According to a press release, the Coast Guard station deployed a 29-foot Response-Boat crew, who swiftly discovered the person in need of aid. The boat team rescued the victim and returned him to the station after navigating through shallow water.
The man claimed that after becoming tied up with another kite surfer, releasing his kite, and swimming to the side of the channel, he became stranded. According to reports, both kite surfers are in excellent health and have no medical issues.
