Arson and Theft: Toms River Man Destroys Father’s Home After Stealing Laptop

John Voltolino Jr., 45, of Toms River

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office,  a Toms River man is suspected of breaking into his father's house, stealing a laptop, and then attempting to set the house on fire.

John Voltolino Jr., 45, of Toms River, has been charged with aggravated arson, burglary, theft, and criminal mischief in relation to what transpired on Monday.

Around 5 p.m. on Monday, police were summoned to a house on Sun Valley Road for a burglary report, according to Billhimer.

The father reported that Voltolino Jr. had entered the home illegally and taken a laptop. According to Billhimer, police discovered blood throughout the residence, shattered glass in the bathroom, and a strong odor of gasoline. Additionally, they discovered evidence of an extingushed fire on the living room floor close to a gasoline canister.

He claimed that Voltolino Jr. was discovered in the woods behind the house, arrested, and charged with burglary and larceny charges.

Arson investigators visited the scene and found that Voltolino Jr. had intentionally started the fire using paper towels, gasoline, and an open flame. He was then charged with criminal mischief and aggravated arson.

He is being held at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River pending a detention hearing.
