Police Searching for Suspects
According to Toms River Police Department, shortly after 4:00 PM this afternoon, police units were dispatched to the corner of Madison and Lexington Avenues for a reported burglary in progress.
Officers were met by a mailman who stated that he noticed two males in hoodies walking down the street as he was delivering mail in the area. As he returned to his mail truck, the males hit him in the head, knocking him to the ground, and then kicked his head. They took his belongings and fled the area down Madison Avenue, toward Hooper Avenue.
The Toms River Police have made public an image of the vehicle they allege was used in the Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, attack and robbery of a mailman in the town.
It is believed there were three males involved, two who assaulted the driver, and one who remained in the vehicle. Similar incidents have been reported throughout the state. The incident is under investigation by the Toms River Police Detective Bureau. Anyone with information is asked to call 732-349-0150 x 1361. All calls are kept confidential.
Police claimed similar, unidentified occurrences had been reported around the state, but they did not provide a description of the culprits' vehicle. Investigators did provide a picture of the suspects' vehicle.
