According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Laurie Maxson, 54, of Barnegat was sentenced to three years in New Jersey State Prison on April 12, 2024, for her guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute more than five ounces of methamphetamine.
On January 29, 2024, Maxson entered a guilty plea to the accusation before Judge Rahill.
On Thursday, July 15, 2021, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency provided a tip to the county prosecutor's office asking them to look into drug sales in Ocean County. Three township police departments and county detectives were assisted in their probe by DEA agents.
The investigation identified a residence in Barnegat as being utilized by Laurie Maxson to illegally store and distribute pain medication throughout New Jersey.
Detectives from the aforementioned law enforcement organizations began surveillance on the subject's Barnegat residence on July 20, 2021.
When Laurie Maxson and her husband Jason Maxson left the house and got into a 2021 Honda Accord, detectives kept a close eye on them both. Following a traffic check by Barnegat Township Police Department officers, the Maxsons were taken into custody without a hitch.
After then, police carried out a court-approved search warrant at the Barnegat home; consequently, over 37,000 Tramadol tablets and 3,400 pills that were initially thought to be Hydrocodone were taken into custody.
After being taken to the
Barnegat Township Police Headquarters, Jason and Laurie Maxson were formally charged and released with a summons to appear in court at a later date.
Subsequent analysis at a lab indicated that the tablets initially believed to be hydrocodone were actually methamphetamine.
When Laurie Maxson entered into a plea deal on January 29, she cleared Jason Maxson;
hence, Judge Rahill dismissed Jason Maxson's charges when Laurie Maxson was sentenced.
