When troopers arrived on the scene at 9:23 a.m., they discovered the bus completely engulfed in flames on the Parkway's southbound lanes. At mile marker 99, the bus was approximately 0.5 miles north of the Judy Blume rest area.

Due to the event, there was a considerable backlog of traffic on the parkway while numerous fire engines and first aid trucks were dispatched to rescue people and put out the fire.

It's not clear what caused the bus to catch fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and police did not provide any additional information.
