Tragic Discovery: Dead Dolphin Washes Ashore on NJ Beach

Early on Sunday morning, a fisherman discovered a dead bottlenose dolphin washed up on the shore in Long Branch, according to NJ.com.

Paul Marzolla, a resident of Long Branch and an enthusiastic saltwater fisherman, is the fisherman. He told NJ.com that he saw the dolphin on the beach while out fishing at five in the morning on Sunday and shared a video.

According to Sheila Dean, director of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, volunteers drove to Long Branch on Sunday morning to examine the remains.

Based on information available on its website, the nonprofit marine life organization has responded to 12 additional bottlenose dolphin strandings this year.

The deceased dolphin was recovered from the beach on Sunday by volunteers from the Marine Mammal Stranding Center. An autopsy will be performed to ascertain the exact cause of death.
