Motorcyclist from Toms River In Critical Condition
According to Manchester Police Department, following a collision on Manchester's Route 571, a motorcycle was dragged by a car a short distance, resulting in a serious head injury on Sunday, June 9th.
Collins Oluleti, 30, of Toms River, was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune after the incident, which occurred just after 1 p.m., and was listed as critically ill there, according to Manchester Lt. Albert Vega.
When a silver 2004 Toyota Camry driven by Andy Hernandez-Cheneaux, 26, of Toms River, started to cross Route 571 on Beacon Street after stopping at the stop sign, Oluleti was riding a black 2024 Kawasaki Vulcan S east in the left lane of the road, according to Vega.
According to Vega, Oluleti appeared to see the Toyota approaching and braked, but he lost control of the motorbike. As a result, both the motorcycle and him struck the pavement and skidded.
Oluleti collided with the Toyota's front end and became trapped beneath it, causing the Kawasaki to skid 287 feet before coming to a halt, according to Vega.
Hernandez-Cheneaux reportedly threw the Toyota in reverse after the collision and backed up 32 feet to the stop bar on Beacon Street at the junction, dragging Oluleti 11 feet behind the vehicle, according to Vega.
Before he struck the Toyota, Oluleti was sliding on the pavement when his helmet came off, he claimed. When first responders came, Oluleti had suffered serious head injuries and was not responding, according to Vega.
Hernandez-Cheneus escaped unharmed. Vega reported that none of the three people he was carrying, Xiomara Lezama-Briceno, 25, of Toms River; Geraldine Requena-Carrasco, 24, of Manchester; and Juan Lezama-Briceno, 28, of Toms River, were hurt.
The department's Traffic Safety Section patrolmen, Michael O'Hara and Sage Sysol, are looking into the collision; however, Vega stated that the main contributing reason appears to be failing to cede right of way at an intersection based on early information.
Assisting at the scene were EMTs from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, firefighters from Ridgeway Volunteer and Manchester Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as Robert Wood Johnson paramedics and Life Flight.
