Ocean County Man Wanted for Murder: Have You Seen Him?

According to Manchester Police Department, in relation to the shooting death of Seaside Heights resident Gabriella Caroleo, 25, in Manchester Township on June 27, 2024, Maxwell Johnston, 35, has been charged with murder.

At around 4:55 p.m. on June 27, 2024, Manchester Township Police Department officers responded to a 911 call indicating a gunshot victim in the vicinity of Ridgeway Road and Hope Chapel Road. Ms. Caroleo was found by responding officers suffering from a gunshot wound to her stomach. After being transported by air to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, Ms. Caroleo passed away from her wounds.

The death of Ms. Caroleo was caused by Johnston, according to a comprehensive and in-depth investigation carried out by the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Manchester Township Police Department, and Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit.

Johnston is regarded as a fugitive from justice as he has not yet been apprehended. Consequently, his name has been added to the National Crime Information Center database and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.

According to Police, “We have been working diligently with our law enforcement partners to locate Johnston. Great teamwork has been exhibited by all of the respective law enforcement agencies and officers involved in this investigation. We are focused on finding Johnston and bring him into custody.
