NJ Weather Alert: Heat Advisories & Storms

According to the National Weather Service, heat advisories will be in effect for much of the state on Thursday (with the exception of the far northwest and southern regions) and will persist into Friday night. Forecasters warn it could feel as high as 102 degrees.

Thursday is expected to be the hottest day of the week and may see additional isolated storms. There will be a higher likelihood of thunderstorms on Friday.

What is a Heat Advisory?

HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THURSDAY TO 8 PM FRIDAY

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 103 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of northern Delaware, central, northern, and southern New Jersey, and southeast Pennsylvania.

* WHEN...From 10 AM Thursday to 8 PM EDT Friday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Stay in an air-conditioned room
  • stay out of the sun
  • Check up on relatives and neighbors.

    To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency!
