Four Injured After Boat Runs Aground at South Jersey Park

According to authorities, the boat struck multiple trees and entered a swamp when it was on the South River in Atlantic County.

According to Dorothy Volunteer Fire Company a boat ran aground at a park in South Jersey on Sunday, leaving four people hospitalized.

Around 6 p.m., the 18-foot boat was on the South River in Estell Manor Park when it crashed into the marsh, hitting multiple trees, according the New Jersey State Police.

Police reported several injuries among the passengers. Four were sent to local hospitals, according to the Dorothy Volunteer Fire Department, which also released pictures of the boat on the marsh, away from the water.

The vessel, operated by Daniel J. Bollinger, 37, of Egg Harbor City,. Not long after 5:30 p.m., emergency personnel were sent to the location.

Chief Jess Hand of the Dorothy Volunteer Fire Company said on Monday that four individuals on the eighteen-foot boat were sent to hospitals for medical attention. One of the individuals, a small child, required airlift therapy.

Per police reports, all injuries were considered non-life threatening.

According to the police spokesman, Bollinger fled the scene before troopers arrived, but he subsequently visited the state police barracks in Buena Vista.

According to authorities, he was accused of third-degree knowing fleeing the scene of an automobile assault and collision that resulted in injuries.

In addition to Dorothy, several other fire and rescue units assisted on the rescue call, including Buena Vista Township EMS, Hamilton Township EMS, Richland Fire, Estell Manor Fire, AtlantiCare medic units and Atlantic County park rangers.
