Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Route 70 Crash

Under Investigation

After getting thrown off his motorcycle following a collision Tuesday afternoon, a man from Manchester Township was taken to the hospital on Friday in  critical condition, according to the police.

According to Manchester Police, Timothy J. O'Connor, 69, was transported by air to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune suffering from severe injuries throughout his body.

According to police, the collision occurred on Tuesday just before 4 p.m. near the intersection of Route 70 and Beckerville Road.

A large passenger van driving west on Route 70 slowed down and pulled into the shoulder to turn right onto Beckerville Road as O'Connor, riding a red 2022 Harley Davidson motorbike, was moving west on the road, according to Police Capt. Vega.

The 2021 Toyota Camry, silver in color, was waiting to turn left to head east on Route 70 when it raced into the intersection and into the path of the motorcycle, he claimed, as the van pulled into the shoulder and slowed down.

According to him, O'Connor was flung from the motorcycle when it struck the Camry on its side and ended up in the westbound travel lane of Route 70.

According to Vega, Carlos I. Hernandez, 35, of Toms River, the driver of the Toyota, was unharmed.

The Manchester Township Division of Emergency Medical Services' firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Life Flight all provided assistance at the incident.

According to Vega, the crash's main contributing element is the driver's failure to yield to oncoming traffic, according to the preliminary inquiry. The department's Traffic Safety Unit Patrolman Conner Yatauro is conducting the investigation.
