18 Year Old Charged in Fatal Crash Involving Young Passenger in NJ
According to West Windsor Police Department, an 18-year-old resident of West Windsor has been charged in relation to an accident that claimed the life of the adolescent passenger in the vehicle.
First-degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree vehicular homicide (death by auto), third-degree vehicular homicide (strict liability), and fourth-degree possession of a fake government document are the charges brought against Rehan Jahangir, 18, of West Windsor. According to Hilton, he received his complaints on Monday night at a New Brunswick rehabilitation center.West Windsor police responded to a collision on Lanwin Boulevard near Providence Drive at 3:49 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20.
When the police arrived, they discovered a 2024 Tesla Model Y had veered off the road, struck a tree, and suffered serious damage to the passenger side of the car. Before the two occupants were freed from the car and sent to Capital Health Regional Medical Center to receive treatment for potentially fatal injuries, officers gave them first aid.According to Hilton, the driver's passenger, Princeton Junction resident Daniel Haas, 18, passed away on August 24 as a result of his injuries.
After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the Tesla, which was being driven by Jahangir and had Haas riding in the front seat, had veered off the road and collided head-on with a tree a short distance beyond the intersection of Providence Drive. Haas and Jahangir both sustained potentially fatal wounds.Jahangir had a blood alcohol content of 0.125 percent when he was driving the Tesla, according to the accusations in the criminal filings.
According to the criminal complaint, he was also driving at a maximum speed of 78 miles per hour on a 35 MPH road. Jahangir had a fake New Jersey driver's license with an erroneous birthdate at the time of the collision.West Windsor Township Police Department Traffic Officer Edward McQuade, Detective Dominick Fiore, and MCPO SCRT Detectives Kayleigh Colligan and Ryan Minnick led the investigation together with the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office Serious Collision Response Team.
