Helene's Impact on NJ Weekend Weather

On Friday, the potent Hurricane Helene—which has killed multiple people and left a million people without electricity in the south—kept moving northward. Forecasters say that even while the storm won't directly affect the Garden State, we might still experience some of its affects.

The National Weather Service stated on Friday morning, "This storm is quite expansive, and some moisture from the edge of Helene is anticipated to move in to our area by later today into tonight."

Parts of New Jersey will see rain due to Helene's leftovers, according to forecasters. Some Friday afternoon and evening will be experienced in South Jersey, and it will move toward western Central Jersey, where the state borders Pennsylvania.

But do not anticipate much.

The National Weather Service stated, "Generally speaking, rain amounts through tonight should not be too impressive for most areas...mainly a tenth to a quarter of an inch or less," however South Jersey would have heavier rain overnight, possibly reaching a half-inch to an inch.

AccuWeather forecasters noted that the storm will slow down after moving inland, making it "highly unlikely" for rain to reach much further north. "The dividing line between Helene's moisture and mainly dry air will extend across the Ohio Valley, central Appalachians and the lower mid-Atlantic," they said.

"A long the mid-Atlantic coast to part of the central Appalachians, the moisture may be more in the form of drizzle and intermittent light rain," forecasters at AccuWeather stated.

On Saturday, a warm front will sit over Philly, according to the National Weather Service. It will be mostly cloudy with intermittent showers to the north of the front, and comparatively dry to the south.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service said that rain will probably persist into early next week.
