NJ Assemblyman's Home Invaded: Vehicle Stolen While Family Asleep

According to a facebook post by Assemblyman Paul Kanitra of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ his home was invaded and his vehicle was stolen while his wife and mother-in-law were sleeping.

Assemblyman Paul Kanitra, who represents the 10th District, posted the video of the theft and break-in of his car, which had a state Assembly license plate, just before six in the early hours of October 9th.

According to Hazlet police, the car was a 2023 Range Rover.

According to Kanitra, the robbers arrived at the house in a white BMW that had been stolen and had temporary license plates.

"They ripped off every screen window in the house," Kanitra wrote on social media. "They then broke one of the windows and climbed in."

According to a news release from the Hazlet Police Department, the 2023 Range Rover was stolen from the driveway after a robber broke into the family's house and snatched the keys.

A person wearing black attire was seen entering a house through the front door in a Nest video that Kanitra shared. A minute or so later, two individuals dressed in black clothing flee the house and take off in two cars.

Before tearing out the GPS, Kanitra said the robbers drove the car with the state assembly license plates to Newark. The Range Rover was discovered later that day in the Bronx, New York, according to Hazlet police.

According to the Assemblyman, his mother-in-law and wife were sleeping when the theft occurred.

"My wife and mother-in-law are incredibly shaken," he wrote. "They no longer have any sense of security. They feel violated and are afraid to sleep tonight again. In order to be with them, I'm driving home and canceling my appointments in Washington, DC."

Anyone with information about the theft or home security footage can contact Hazlet police at 732-264-6565, extension 2518.
