Heartbreaking Loss: 12-Year-Old Killed by Falling Tree in NJ

According to Authorities, a 12-year-old kid from Lawrence Township died Monday afternoon after being hit by a falling tree in his backyard as he was playing with a friend.

Officers arrived at the residence on the 100 block of Eldridge Avenue at approximately 12:09 p.m., according to Lawrence Township police.

Upon their arrival, they discovered that the child had been hit by the falling tree.

The youngster was successfully extricated from the tree by the officers, who then started CPR.

Emergency medical personnel took the youngster to the neighboring Capital Health System Regional Medical Center, where he was later declared dead, according to a statement from the police.

High winds hit much of New Jersey on Monday, and according to the authorities, a powerful gust blew the tree over, hitting the boy and killing him.

The child was enrolled in the Lawrence Township School District.

According to police, the district will offer counseling services all week long to assist staff and children in adjusting to the loss.

Mercer County Traumatic Loss Coalition members and therapy dogs will also be available to help if needed.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
