21 Year-Old Seriously Injured after flying tire crashes through windshield

According to NJ State Police, on Thursday afternoon, a tire flew through a woman's windshield on the Garden State Parkway, gravely injuring her.

Around 3:25 p.m., a spare wheel fell loose from a car traveling north close to Exit 81 (Lakehurst Road) in South Toms River, according to State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan.

Emily Newton, 21, of Flemington, was driving a Volkswagen sedan when the tire jumped over the concrete barrier into the southbound lanes and collided with the windshield and roof. According to Marchan, Newton sustained severe injuries in the collision.

State Police Seeking Public's Assistance with Serious Motor Vehicle Crash

According to a Press Release issued by State Police, based on an investigation at the scene, detectives determined that at approximately 3:23 p.m., a spare wheel became dislodged from an unknown vehicle traveling northbound on the Garden State Parkway.

The spare wheel subsequently struck a motorist traveling southbound, causing serious injuries to the driver.
