Ocean County: Pedestrian Injured After Being Struck by Drunk Driver

According to Lacey Township Police Department, on Monday, December 02, 2024, at 1709 hours, Lacey Township Police and Lacey EMS responded to 428 Lake Barnegat Dr N, Forked River, for a report of a vehicle that struck a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the driver of a blue Honda Civic, identified as Kathleen Colaio, age 44, of Forked River, was traveling southbound on Lake Barnegat Dr N, when she struck a pedestrian, 63 year old female from Bayville, who was standing behind her parked white Honda Accord.

Kathleen struck the victim and then slammed into the back of the Honda Accord. After suffering non-life-threatening injuries, Lacey EMS took the victim to the hospital so she could receive care.

Kathleen was arrested for driving while intoxicated while she was on the scene as she was displaying symptoms of intoxication. The Ocean County Prosecutors Office and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department CSI Unit provided support to the Lacey Police Department.

Between Brentwood Road and Steuben Avenue, Lake Barnegat Drive North was temporarily closed. The road was reopened when the initial investigation was completed. There are other charges pending.
