Prepare for Snow: Weekend Weather Expectations for NJ Residents
As a weak system travels through the area, the most recent prediction predicts that the northwest portion of New Jersey will receive 1 to 3 inches of snow on Friday night into Saturday, with a light dusting of snow likely for the rest of the state.
Forecasters with
AccuWeather say a clipper storm from Alberta is moving toward the coast, where it may develop into a coastal storm. There may be more snow than expected as a result of this.
However, the National Weather Service predicts that less than an inch of snow will fall across the majority of the state. As you move into Central Jersey, it will be more of a rain and snow mix, while Northwest Jersey will primarily see snowfall.
It will mostly rain with overnight snowfall as we go southeast of the I-95 corridor.
But there might be a few variations.
"It should be noted though that these types of inverted trough setups are notoriously difficult to forecast as they can sometimes have localized heavier precipitation amounts," forecasters from the
National Weather Service stated Thursday morning. "If this occurs, some areas could 'over perform' and see snowfall amounts as high as 4 or 5 inches."
Central to Northwest Jersey would see more snowfall if that were the true.
Over the weekend, temperatures are expected to plunge, with nightly lows in the teens to single digits. Forecasters caution that this will be the coldest weather of the season thus far.
