Anticipating a Stormy Start to 2025: What New Jersey Residents Should Know
New Jersey is anticipated to bid farewell to 2024 and usher in 2025 with considerable rainfall and the possibility of a thunderstorm, according to meteorologists.
The
National Weather Service announced on Thursday that unsettled weather is expected for the upcoming week.
Forecasters indicated that freezing rain may occur along the I-195 corridor on Friday night. The likelihood of freezing rain is estimated to be between 30 and 50 percent. Should the precipitation be delayed until shortly after sunrise on Saturday, it is anticipated to manifest as regular rain.
Rain showers are expected intermittently on Saturday and Sunday throughout the state. The warmer temperatures indicate that wintry precipitation is unlikely. However, there is a possibility of embedded thunderstorms on Sunday night, which the National Weather Service describes as "very unusual" for this time of year, though not entirely out of the question.
Additionally, New Year's Eve on Tuesday is anticipated to be rainy as well.
AccuWeather stated that a storm may develop on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day, which could bring a combination of rain and snow to the Northeast, while areas further south are expected to experience only rain.
Rain may begin to fall before the ball drops in Times Square; however, the timing is still uncertain and will be closely observed, according to forecasters.
