According to National Weather Service forecasters, a "messy mixed bag" of wintry precipitation, including snow, sleet, freezing rain, and everything in between, is predicted to affect New Jersey Wednesday through Thursday. As a result, winter weather advisories have been issued throughout the western part of the state.

Although the forecast "remains highly uncertain," according to forecasters, the Garden State is expected to experience a storm that could result in icy and slippery conditions from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning.

From midnight on Wednesday through 10 a.m. on Thursday, and until 12 p.m. on Sussex and Warren counties, a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset, Mercer, Gloucester, Camden, and northwest Burlington counties. It is anticipated that snow, ice, and sleet will build up, making the commute treacherous.

The northwest region of the state is most likely to see accumulations of snow and sleet up to two inches thick. Sleet will compact the heavy, wet snow, creating icy slush. Depending on how the storm develops, totals could vary, according to forecasters.

Forecasters predicted that by Thursday afternoon, the weather would shift to a wintry mix or all rain.

"Dangerous amounts of ice accretion could occur into Thursday," AccuWeather Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham stated. "As the storm progresses, this presents a risk for power outages and tree damage."
Forecasters with AccuWeather cautioned that Thursday might see delayed school openings or problems with commutes.

"This prediction is extremely speculative. The National Weather Service stated that adjustments to the precise types and amounts of precipitation are anticipated. "The key lesson is still the same, though: wintry precipitation will cause potentially icy and slick conditions from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning."
