Large Winter Storm Will Impact Parts of New Jersey
A significant winter storm is set to affect various regions of New Jersey starting late Wednesday, delivering a combination of snow, ice, and rain.
The storm will commence with snowfall, which will then shift to an icy mixture and ultimately to rain. The severity of conditions and the amount of accumulation will differ throughout the state, with northern and western counties anticipated to experience greater snowfall and ice compared to the southern and coastal regions.
Precipitation is predicted to begin late Wednesday evening and taper off by Thursday afternoon, according to the
National Weather Service's Winter Weather Advisories for a large portion of the state. With ice accumulations of up to a quarter inch in some areas, snow totals are predicted to vary from a coating to two inches.
It is advised that drivers exercise caution when driving because icy conditions can make travel dangerous, especially in the morning. Prior to the storm, road crews are anticipated to be out treating highways.
By Thursday afternoon, the rain should stop, and the rising temperatures will aid in the melting of the snow and ice that has accumulated.
Forecasters caution that it won't be the final winter storm to hit New Jersey for some time. Two more storms are expected to follow this one through next week, according to
AccuWeather forecasters.
According to AccuWeather, North Jersey may experience localized icy impacts from another ice storm that is expected to last from Friday night through Sunday. There is also a chance of power outages.
Forecasters warn that a third winter storm could bring accumulating snow to New Jersey in the middle of next week. It's still too early to know the specifics, though.
