Risk of Damaging Winds and Isolated Tornadoes in NJ
According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday and Wednesday night will be an active weather period, with strong winds, showers and perhaps a few strong to severe thunderstorms. The most recent forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday. Strong, gusty winds are the storm's biggest threat.
Elizabeth Danco, an
AccuWeather Meteorologist, stated that "the storm's associated winds can get strong enough to cause widespread travel disruptions." "They also can knock over trees and bring down power lines across the eastern two-thirds of the nation through Wednesday night."
Throughout the entire state, wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are predicted. AccuWeather forecasters warn that gusts of up to 60 mph could blow along the Jersey Shore. There is a risk of
power outages with these strong winds.
The Storm Prediction Center of the
National Weather Service has classified much of New Jersey as having a "marginal risk" of severe weather, with severe thunderstorms unlikely to reach the northernmost part of the state. The National Weather Service warns that even in the absence of severe weather, strong to severe wind gusts could still happen.
Thursday and Friday are predicted to be dry but windy days. Over the weekend, there could be more rain.
Additionally, the possibility of an isolated tornado has not been ruled out by forecasters. Check the
latest forecast in your area.
