According to Brick Township Police Department, authorities are looking into a collision that occurred Thursday morning on Cherry Quay Road when a pickup truck struck a Brick Township school bus from behind.

According to a district official, the bus was transporting 36 pupils to Drum Point Elementary School. According to police, Brick Township EMS assessed each student on the bus on the spot, and Drum Point Principal Andrea Caldes also visited the scene.

According to officials, some students were released to their parents following verification that they were the parents. Other pupils were moved to a different bus and driven to school.

According to Brick Township police, the bus was rear-ended by a pickup truck driver who was following it too closely. The collision was reported at 8:21 a.m.

Whether the bus was stopping to pick up students or for some other reason was not disclosed by the police.

Police did not specify whether the pickup truck driver was alone or had a passenger or passengers, but they did state that there were minor injuries.

"To ensure the safe discharge of the students to their parents who were at the scene and to release the remaining students who were then safely transported to the school," the Brick Township Police Department said, citing the cooperation of Brick Township police, emergency medical technicians, and the administration and transportation department of the Brick Township Schools.
