Multi-Vehicle Collision on Rt. 70 Leaves Several Injured in Ocean County
According to the The Lakewood Police Department, a multi-vehicle collision on Route 70 West Friday morning left several people hurt, including one who was initially considered critically ill, according to Lakewood Police Captain Gregory Staffordsmith.
Staffordsmith reported that a car was traveling in the wrong direction on the divided highway at 5:51 a.m. on Friday when it struck several other cars and started a fire.
Police said that extrication services were used by emergency personnel to safely remove a trapped person and put out the fire after they arrived at the crash scene.
Staffordsmith reported that one patient was airlifted via medevac to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment after suffering burns as a result of the collision.
According to police, a number of others were hurt to differing degrees but declined on-scene medical assistance.
The collision is under investigation.
