Dump Truck Flips on Route 70 After Driver Takes Sharp Turn
According to Manchester Police Department a man from Point Pleasant sustained injuries on Wednesday after losing control of a dump truck on Route 70 while attempting to turn into the entrance of the Ocean County Landfill, resulting in the vehicle overturning, according to Manchester police.
David Santana, 65, incurred multiple injuries that are not considered life-threatening, as reported by Manchester Captain Albert Vega. He was subsequently transported to Ocean University Medical Center in Brick for medical care, Vega added.
Santana was operating a black 2004 Mack dump truck at a high speed westbound on Route 70, according to Vega, just before noon as he neared the intersection with
Green Acres Road, which leads to the Ocean County Landfill.
As Santana applied the brakes to execute a left turn into the entrance, his excessive speed resulted in a loss of control over the truck, causing it to tip onto its passenger side, according to Vega.
Route 70 experienced partial closure for approximately three hours while authorities conducted the crash investigation and cleanup.
Emergency medical technicians and firefighters from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, along with personnel from the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Priced Rite Towing, Accurate Towing, and the New Jersey State Department of Transportation, were present at the scene to provide assistance.
According to Vega, Manchester Patrolman Brendan Brush from the Traffic Safety Unit is conducting the investigation, and initial findings suggest that excessive speed is likely the main contributing factor.
