ATM Skimmer Discovered at Wawa Following Bank Alert in Ocean County
Authorities are actively pursuing the individual responsible for installing an account skimming device on a PNC Bank ATM located at the Wawa in South Toms River, according to the South Toms River Police.
On March 5, officials from PNC Bank notified the South Toms River police after receiving an alert from one of their ATMs situated at the convenience store on 379 Dover Road. Upon investigation, detectives discovered a device attached to the ATM.
Police Chief Michael C. Schneidt stated that, as of last Wednesday, the South Toms River police have not received any reports of fraud.
Schneidt stated that investigators are collaborating with Wawa's loss prevention team and PNC Bank to determine the identity of the individual who installed the device.
Individuals who accessed the PNC Bank ATM at the South Toms River Wawa on or around March 4 or 5 are advised to monitor their bank accounts for any signs of fraudulent activity.
