Family of Five and Their Pets Survive Devastating Fire in Ocean County
According to Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention a family of five, along with their pets, avoided injury on Friday when a two-alarm fire erupted at their residence in Toms River, according to fire officials.
The blaze on
Jane Court was noticed around 7:30 p.m. by the family, who observed flames and smoke emanating from the rear of the house through a window, stated Matthew Janora, chief inspector for the
Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention.
Upon spotting the fire, the family promptly evacuated along with their pets and contacted 911, Janora reported. He confirmed that there were no injuries among the family, their pets, or the first responders.
Firefighters from
Toms River Fire Companies No. 1 and
No. 2, in conjunction with the
East Dover Fire Company, responded to a blaze in a two-story residence. The situation was rapidly escalated to a two-alarm fire, prompting the involvement of the remaining fire companies in the township as well as additional mutual aid.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered significant smoke and flames coming from the rear and roof of the house. Crews deployed multiple handlines to effectively combat and extinguish the fire, as reported by Janora.
The residence has been deemed uninhabitable as a result of extensive smoke, fire, and water damage, according to his statement.
The investigation into the fire and the examination of the scene were carried out by Toms River Fire Inspector William Herbst in collaboration with the
Toms River Police Department. The initial conclusion suggests that the fire was likely accidental, originating from improperly disposed of smoking materials in a trash receptacle located at the rear of the property, as noted by Janora.
