Harvey Downs, 62, passed away on April 1, 2025, in Somerville, New Jersey. Born on February 9, 1963, in Toms River, New Jersey, Harvey lived a life marked by hard work, loyalty, and a deep love for the outdoors.
Harvey served his country with pride as a Seabee in the United States Navy, stationed in the Aleutian Islands. His time there fostered a lasting appreciation for ice fishing and the bonds of military service—memories he carried with him throughout his life.
After completing his military service, Harvey began a dedicated career with Jersey Central Power & Light. As a lineman for more than three decades, he worked tirelessly to ensure that communities remained connected and safe. He retired in September 2024 after over 30 years of steadfast service.
Outside of work, Harvey found joy in nature’s quiet moments. A passionate fisherman, he spent countless hours on his boat alongside his children, brothers, and close friends. Whether casting lines or swapping stories on the water, these times were among his most cherished. Bow hunting was another pursuit close to his heart; he embraced the challenge and thrill of tracking deer and often shared tales of his quest for the elusive bigger buck—stories that became legendary among those who knew him.
Harvey is remembered with love by his daughter Sarah; son Travis; ex-wife Cindy; brothers Lee and Larry; sister Diana; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Leon and Elaine Downs.
A memorial gathering celebrating Harvey’s life will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street in Toms River, New Jersey.
A repass will follow at the Office Lounge on Main Street.
May Harvey’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
