Tornado Hits South Jersey After Friday Storms

Tornado Hits South Jersey

According to the National Weather Service a tiny tornado briefly made landfall in Atlantic County on Friday afternoon amidst intense thunderstorms.

At 12:52 p.m., the EF-0 tornado made landfall in Buena Vista Township's Collings Lakes subdivision. According to officials, it traveled half a mile, was 25 yards wide, and had peak winds of 65 to 75 mph. One minute after it began, the tornado came to an end.

The National Weather Service uses a six-level scale, with an EF-0 tornado being the weakest.
According to a preliminary assessment from the National Weather Service, "the first damage was noted along Malaga Road where large branches were downed and some metal roof sheeting was peeled off an out building." "Ongoing damage, primarily huge branches falling, persisted close to the junction of Colton Lane and Cains Mill Road. Near the intersection of Wiltshire Drive and Cloverdale Lane, the path's most recent damage was noticed.

Further south along Cains Mill Road, further scattered tree damage was discovered, although the National Weather Service concluded that it was caused by straight line winds.

The National Weather Service reported that Friday's heavy storms produced a second tornado that began in Maryland and spread into Delaware in addition to the Collings Lakes tornado.
