Deadly Listeria Outbreak Prompts Recall of Additional Product
Federal health officials announced on Tuesday that a number of ready-to-eat chicken fettuccine alfredo products sold nationwide are being recalled due to the possibility that they contain a strain of Listeria monocytogenes associated with a multi-state epidemic.
Three chicken fettuccine alfredo items sold at Walmart and Kroger stores across the country are being voluntarily recalled, according to a
notice released by the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
According to officials, the goods are connected to a current Listeria outbreak that has made 17 individuals ill across 13 states. As of June 17, the epidemic has been linked to one fetal loss and three recorded deaths.
The following ready-to-eat products were shipped to Kroger and Walmart retail locations nationwide [view labels]:

Listeria monocytogenes-contaminated food can result in listeriosis, a dangerous infection that mostly affects elderly individuals, those with compromised immune systems, and expectant mothers and their unborn children. It is less frequent for people outside of these risk groups to be impacted.
Fever, headaches, stiff necks, muscle aches, loss of balance, confusion, and convulsions are some of the symptoms of listeriosis, which can occasionally be accompanied by gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea. Miscarriages, stillbirths, early delivery, or potentially fatal infections in the fetus can all result from the infection in pregnant women. Moreover, severe and occasionally lethal infections in elderly individuals and those with compromised immune systems.
Antibiotics can be used to treat listeriosis.
The possibility that the chicken fettuccine products are in consumers' freezers or refrigerators worries health experts. We strongly advise anyone who has bought these products not to eat them. You should either return these items to the store or toss them away.
