Following a tragic crash at the Jersey Shore that claimed the life of her 13-year-old son and seriously injured her husband, a distraught mother is speaking out.
"I kept thinking that this would be the last time I would see my son. In an emotional interview with Action News on Friday, Colleen Yoachum stated, "It's not fair."

No parent should ever have to bury their child, according to Colleen, and now she has to deal with this heartbreak.
Early on Monday morning in Middle Township, her son, 13-year-old Chase Yoachum, and his father, Michael, were in a car when they were both hit by another motorist. After spending the weekend at a camper, the family was on their way to Deptford.

According to Middle Township Police, a 26-year-old driver struck Michael's automobile when he got into the northbound lanes while attempting to pass another car on Court House-South Dennis Road.

After Colleen hurried to the hospital, the physicians informed her with tears that Chase had not survived.
"Chase was a son, a brother, a hugger, a friend, a classmate, a teammate, a fellow Boy Scout, and a wonderful, sweet spirit," the superintendent of the Deptford Township School District said in a statement. Those who knew and loved him are deeply saddened by his departure.

Colleen adds that although she will miss Chase's physical presence, they will always be a family of five and he will always be here.
Following the collision, her spouse was flown to a nearby hospital. He miraculously fought and was removed from a ventilator after stabilization, although Colleen claimed she wasn't sure if he would live. He has a long road to recovery after suffering multiple fractures, she said.

The crash is still being investigated, according to Middle Township police. No information was available regarding the filing of any charges.

Wenonah's Cattell Complex will host a vigil on July 8.
