A transformer issue on Hooper Avenue left over 2,500 residences and businesses without electricity Monday night, according to officials.
The non-emergency line for the
Toms River Police Department is impacted and not operational, according to the Ocean County Sheriff's office. The sheriff's office advised anyone experiencing an emergency to contact 911, as the lines are still open.
According to Jersey Central Power & Light spokesperson Chris Hoenig, a feed into the nearby substation tripped, causing the outage. "The cause is yet unknown," he stated.
"Crews have already restored over 1,000 clients and are actively attempting to isolate the issue," he stated.
The sheriff's office advised drivers to use caution while the outage affected traffic signals.
The remaining outages were expected to be restored by approximately 7:30 p.m., based on the JCP&L
outage map.
