Woman in Hospital After Manchester Crash, Charged with DUI
According to Manchester police on Thursday, a woman from Manchester Township has been charged with driving under the influence after a collision that left her hospitalized and pulled down power lines.
After the collision on Commonwealth Boulevard shortly before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Lisa Leith, 61, had to be pulled out of her 2024 Nissan Frontier, according to Manchester Lt. Chris Cerullo.
After being transported to
Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, Leith was declared stable, according to Cerullo.
When Leith failed to handle a curve and went off the road close to Third Street, investigators discovered that she was driving the Nissan truck west on Commonwealth Boulevard. Before she went down a small incline and overturned, she struck a number of trees, a power pole, and several street signs, according to Cerullo.
About 20 yards into the trees, the pickup landed on its roof. According to him, high-voltage lines across the road were brought down when the utility pole broke in two.
According to him, the investigation resulted in Leith being charged with suspected drunk driving, and it is thought that impairment was the main cause of the collision.
A number of entities provided assistance, including Priced Rite Towing, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, volunteer firefighters from the Ridgeway, Manchester, and Joint Base Fire companies, and EMTs and firefighters from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services.
The investigation is being conducted by Patrol Officers Sage Sysol and Jesse Hoydis.
