Lightning Strikes Again: NJ Golfer Faces Cardiac Arrest on Course
Police said that a man who was struck by lightning on a golf course in Morris County this past weekend was in critical condition.
Authorities said the man was hit at
Pinch Brook Golf Course in Florham Park on Sunday at approximately 6 p.m.
Authorities say other golfers rushed to perform CPR on the 36-year-old before first responders arrived at the scene. Shortly after the strike was reported, authorities showed up on the scene. According to authorities, the 36-year-old golfer experienced a heart arrest and fainted after being hit.
Several spectators attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation after the victim lost consciousness and stopped breathing, according to witnesses who told police. Longtime Florham Park First Aid Squad member and retired Sheriff's Officer captain Mark Chiarolanza was one among the spectators helping the man.
The golfer, whose name has not yet been made public, was taken by first responders to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Lieutenant Brian Ford of the Florham Park Police Department said that he was in severe condition when he was finally taken to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center.
