Prepare for Stormy Weather in New Jersey: Rain and Winds Expected
The most recent forecast predicts that a coastal storm heading north will bring gusty gusts and heavy rain to parts of New Jersey through the middle of the week.
The
National Weather Service reports that rain has started in the southeast portion of the Garden State and that clouds have already began to settle over the state as of Tuesday morning. Forecasters predicted that later in the day and into Tuesday night, those bands of much-needed rain will spread out over the region.
Forecasters from the
National Weather Service stated that rain chances along the I-95 corridor will increase after "just some high clouds and perhaps a stray shower is expected through early afternoon."
The National Weather Service predicted that the rest of the state would see a "rather benign" day, with the rain primarily limited to South Jersey and the Jersey Shore. According to experts, there will be sporadic bands of rain throughout the day in coastal areas, which will eventually move north.
Up to 1 inch of rain is predicted for South Jersey and the Shore, with higher totals likely locally. Only a quarter of an inch should be visible in the rest of the state. There may be some thunder close to the coast.
Additionally, gusty winds are predicted, with the heaviest gusts occurring along the coast. Forecasters predicted sustained winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph in the state's interior and as high as 25 to 40 mph at the coast.
The National Weather Service predicts scattered to numerous showers and even some embedded thunderstorms for the same areas of New Jersey on Wednesday.
It's possible that the rain may continue throughout Thursday morning. But according to National Weather Service predictions, Friday will bring a dry spell, at least through Monday of next week.
