Two New Jersey Teen Girls on Bikes Fatally Struck in Hit-And-Run

Authorities and media outlets said that two young girls were killed Monday after being struck by a car. The driver reportedly ran away from the incident but is currently being held, according to CBS News New York. "Our Cranford community endured a horrific tragedy last evening," Dr. Scott Rubin, the superintendent of Cranford Public Schools, told the district community in a statement. "All of you, and especially the families and closest friends of the students affected, are in our thoughts."
After two bikers were struck by a car near Burnside Avenue, Cranford Police responded at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Social media exploded in response to the catastrophe, with hundreds of comments on dozens of posts expressing shock, sadness, rage, and terror over yet another catastrophic mishap.

According to police, the two victims passed away after being transported to the hospital.

On Burnside Avenue, a witness told ABC7 about the sounds of tires squealing.
Every school in the Cranford district will have a crisis team on hand to offer support and counseling.
