Parents Charged Following Teen Arrests for Car Theft in NJ
Two minors are among the multiple individuals Gloucester City Police have charged with auto theft. The parents of the teenagers are also charged.
Three suspects are seen approaching cars in Gloucester City's Highland Park neighborhood in surveillance footage that
Action News was able to get.
Just before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, you can see someone attempting to get into a car in a driveway across the street, then departing when a light turns on. According to the police, these three were taken into custody shortly after for breaking into cars and taking items.
On Saturday night, the automobile of Denise Glassman's son-in-law was hit and left unlocked.
Glassman stated, "He called the police and discovered that they hit his car and every other car on the road."
According to her, credit cards were taken from it, and his bike was taken from the driveway.
Numerous cars were broken into over the weekend, according to the police. Three suspects were apprehended:
Wesley Hunter, 19, of Cherry Hill, and
two minors, ages 16 and 17, from Camden.
Hunter was turned over to
Camden County Police because he had outstanding warrants.
The minors were turned over to their parents, who were also accused of neglecting to keep an eye on their children.
The charge usually entails an appearance in municipal court and perhaps a fine, according to the police chief. Although they are relieved to learn of the arrests, local residents say they are still exercising caution.
Teddy Bathurst stated, "We basically look out for each other between the dogs and the ring camera." "The neighborhood where we live is quite small. And we do just that."
Additionally, police are requesting that citizens inspect their cars for indications of a break-in, as detectives have found some stolen goods that they would like to return to their owners.
