Freezing Temperatures and Storm Threat Loom Over New Jersey

Forecasters' focus has shifted to a powerful coastal storm that is preparing to hit New Jersey over the weekend as Wednesday's storm moves out of the Garden State.

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Watch for Sussex and Warren counties for Thursday night through Friday morning, meaning that conditions could get completely frigid in some areas of the state. According to experts, the first frost of the season could occur with subfreezing temperatures between 26 and 31 degrees.
According to National Weather Service forecasters, there may be at least "some" patchy frost in the South Jersey suburbs and possibly frost in the Pine Barrens.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service said that Thursday will be the coolest day of the season thus far, with high temperatures finding it difficult to rise above 60 degrees throughout the afternoon.

They added that higher elevation locations might only see highs in the mid-to-upper 50s. It will be even more cool with a breeze.

Temperatures will be in the mid-60s on Friday and over 70 degrees on Saturday.
After that, a powerful coastal storm is expected to develop, however forecasters are still uncertain of the precise course of events. Forecasters with the National Weather Service, however, stated that they are "growing increasingly concerned about the potential impacts locally from this storm."

Stronger winds could result in "moderate to major coastal flooding, significant beach erosion, and strong to damaging winds near the coast and possibly inland across the coastal plain," according to the National Weather Service.
"Again, to be clear, a lot of uncertainty with this system, but it bears monitoring very closely, as significant impacts remain possible," forecasts stated.
