Anticipating a Strong Storm: NJ to Experience Heavy Rain and Winds
Gusty winds could persist through Halloween, and a powerful storm system could bring 1 to 3 inches of rain and wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph to New Jersey on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the
National Weather Service's most recent forecast, the storm system may cause sporadic damage to trees and power lines, modest tidal flooding, and a few isolated thunderstorms.
Tuesday will begin with bright sky and then progressively more clouds as the day goes on. Northeastern winds will get stronger, with interior gusts of 15 to 20 mph and coastal gusts of 20 to 30 mph.
There may be a few light showers near the immediate coast in the afternoon as high temperatures rise into the mid- to upper 50s.
More unpredictable precipitation is expected on Wednesday as a developing storm system moves closer to our area.
With "a broad area of low pressure extending from the Tennessee Valley to the Carolina coast Wednesday night consolidating into one low pressure system Thursday," weather service forecasters said the situation is complex.
Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, showers are expected along the immediate coast, with a 25% to 40% chance of showers farther inland.
Northeast winds of 25–35 mph along the coast and gusts of 20–30 mph inland will intensify the onshore flow. The mid- to upper-fifty and low-sixties will be the temperatures.
As the intricate storm system passes across the area, the most notable weather effects will be Thursday through Thursday evening.
There may be widespread rainfall of 1 to 3 inches during this period of moderate to heavy precipitation. There is a risk of flooding in urban areas and on streets with poor drainage because the heaviest rain is expected to fall during a 6- to 12-hour period. Check the latest
